About

A small practice. By design.

CuraLegis is run by Karl Mittring, LL.M., a senior legal and compliance professional with nearly twenty years of experience working across the Netherlands and the Caribbean. Karl has worked at the practical end of legal and compliance matters: corporate governance, KYC and CDD execution, entity management, contract management, trust and fiduciary services, M&A transactions and corporate restructuring. He has worked with organisations ranging from strat-upos, owner-managed businesses to multinationals and private clients, at firms including Legadex, Citco, IQ-EQ and Corpag. Based in Curaçao, CuraLegis provides services in Dutch and English and is deliberately kept small. One senior person doing the work directly.

Engagements are handled directly, from the first conversation through to completion, by Karl himself. There are no account layers, no junior handovers, and no work passing between teams. The scope is agreed at the outset, and the work is carried through accordingly.

Karl Mittring, LL.M. — CuraLegis

Two decades. Two jurisdictions.

Karl began his career in the Netherlands and has worked across both the Netherlands and the Caribbean ever since. His background spans trust and fiduciary services, legal operations, compliance, contract management and M&A. Over the years, he has worked with entrepreneurial businesses, trust offices, multinational organisations and high-net-worth families, including in roles at Legadex, Citco, IQ-EQ and Corpag.

Throughout, the work has been more operational than advisory. Files that needed completing. Structures that needed cleaning up and restructured. Transactions that needed someone to coordinate the moving parts. KYC and CDD backlogs cleared ahead an audit. Corporate records brought in order before acquisitions, sale or restructuring. The common thread has always been the same: helping clients move matters forward, resolve practical issues and complete work that cannot be left unfinished.

CuraLegis is a continuation of that approach in a more direct form. No unnecessary layers between client and work, just experienced support focused on getting things done.

The practice in one line

Why a small practice.

Most legal and compliance problems are not complicated. They are stuck. They stall because priorities shift, ownership becomes unclear or responsibility is passed between different people without anyone bringing the matter to completion.

CuraLegis is set up to fix that. Engagements are handled personally from start to finish. Scope is agreed clearly at the outset. Communication short and direct. The person you speak to at the beginning is the person doing the work.

Where a matter needs a notary, tax advisor or attorney, the appropriate specialist is engaged. Where a client needs practical support, such as daily administration, local coordination or assistance dealing with institutions, that is handled directly or through trusted partners if appropriate. The work goes to whoever is best placed to do it, not whoever happens to be available.

For pensionados and private clients, this may involve sensitive personal or family matters that require careful handling and discretion. The focus remains on providing practical support while respecting the client's wishes, circumstances and objectives.

A note on the rest.

Outside work, much of Karl's time is spent outdoors. Windsurfing and wingfoiling on the water, mountain biking on the trails, padel, tennis and boxing. Curaçao makes that easy.

Alongside CuraLegis, Karl also manages a privately owned landhuis on behalf of its owners, overseeing renovation projects, personnel and the day-to-day operation of the estate. The role reflects the same practical approach that characterises his legal and compliance work: taking ownership, coordinating people and ensuring that things move forward.

CuraLegis is deliberately small. It exists for situations where experience, direct involvement and follow-through matter more than headcount.
